This year, I traded at the Luju Festival once again at the newest “Sweet Spot.” As a seasoned Luju trader, this year felt especially significant because of the culinary theme, “Forgotten Seeds,” which called for honoring the theme through our menu offerings. This aligned perfectly with my Indigenous Food Project and my ongoing work as an innovator in indigenous cuisine.
I was able to showcase the first-of-its-kind Maganu Cheesecake at a public festival, along with other innovations such as Mandwandwa Chill Ice Cream and the newest addition, ‘Likotapeni’ Frostings, paired with fresh cinnamon rolls. These creations were crowd- pleasers and generated excitement among festival-goers.
Our stall quickly became a popular spot, attracting regular Mrs M supporters and celebrity figures to experience the indigenous innovations, including festival headliner chef Onezwa Mbola, Zukisani Mrwetyana, Andile Dyallvane, and headline fashion designer Thula Sindi.
